Maruti Suzuki recently its celebrated 40th anniversary. The celebration was attended by many personalities including Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a part of this milestone, the company also laid the foundation of its new vehicle manufacturing facility in Kharkhida, Haryana, and also Maruti’s Electric Vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing facility at Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) plant in Hansalpur. The foundation was inaugurated by the Prime Minister himself.

With this new EV battery plant, the company is planning on building new products at SMG with an investment of ₹7,300 crores. The company is also expanding the plant with ₹3,100 crores for EV products. This EV battery production unit is expected to be running in 2026. The current capacity of this Gujarat plant of Maruti Suzuki is capable of producing 7.5 lakh cars per year. And for the Haryana plant, Maruti is investing ₹11,000 crores, while this plant will be able to produce up to 10 lakh cars a year.

While the new battery plant development is in progress, the ICE vehicles will continue to be produced at the current plant of Maruti in Manesar and Gurgaon. Maruti has also revealed its future plans for electrification, and as per the plan the first EV of Maruti is expected to be unveiled near 2025. Although the company has not revealed any other details about this EV we can assume the price to be near ₹10-20 lakhs and can be put against the likes of Tata’s Nexon EV and Mahindra’s XUV400 electric SUVs.

The current Maruti line-up contains many mild hybrid cars including Ertiga, Ciaz, and XL6. The carmaker also recently introduced the strong hybrid-equipped new Grand Vitara. With this new investment in the EV department and EV plans for the future with a reveal in 2025, Maruti Suzuki India is all set to join the EV revolution of the country.
